About us.
Daniel Merk
I am a Visual Communication Designer developing products for the consumer market. Using my creativity and my motivation, I enjoy helping others motivate themselves to become aware of a healthier lifestyle.
I had always been a chubby kid. My family was not much of a healthy role model for me to be in shape and understand fitness and nutrition. Clothes never fit me well because of my waistline, and I had to settle for long leg trousers to match the waist. After graduating college the weight kept creeping up on me. My health was at its lowest point. I was diagnosed with Hypertension at age 30 and was put on medication. At that point the wait would eventually put me over the edge to where I was being told by my doctor that I am a contender of Type 2 Diabetes. That day I said, “Enough is enough!” My amazing wife and I took the plunge into the primal/paleo community and cleaned up our diet and exercise. Since then, I will never go back to that lifestyle.

Mrs. Monique Merk here. Just turned 39 recently and enjoying this amazing journey of transforming my body, along with my husband. Our lives are shared with our two boxer fur kids and two cats.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, where we only receive 5 months of warm weather, it is constantly a challenge to get in shape in our climate. My health and fitness are a progress in the making.
Do you want to transform your body? Do you want to get fit? Everyone deserves to be healthy, no excuses.
I had always been a fat kid. Kids in school always make fun of the fat kid. Throughout my teenage and adult life I yo-yoed from a size 8 to a size 14. For me, getting in shape and staying there was a pipe dream. That would always be for the “other people” until my fantastic husband talked me into going primal.
Every day I eat clean and get 8 hours of sleep. My fitness regimen includes band, free weights, a pull-up bar, a yoga block and yoga mat. And hitting the store to pick up a new article of clothing because what I have in my closet is just TOO BIG! Can you dig it?
My largest obstacle has been myself. I don’t think about how I am feeling when I go to work out, I just do it. I realized that I can’t possibly take care of those around me if I didn’t make myself a priority. This is for everyone, this means you.

Love the new blog guys! Keep up the great work!
great blog guys, hair looks great in the video Dan!!!
I don’t see the stats…? Would love to see your exact progress. Like the blog so far. Keep it up!
(I’m a native Clevelander myself – I can empathize with the notion of crappy weather!)
Alex,
Stats are just numbers. For me, I started out at 247lbs 14 months ago. In 3 months I dropped my weight to 220lbs and kept going until I stumbled across Mark Sisson and read his book. It changed my life and I continued to lose weight until I hit 196lbs. I felt amazing and kept going until we found out that we are pregnant. I celebrated and lost sight of my goals and gained some weight back to 216lbs. I came really down on myself around the holidays and felt miserable. The sniffles came back, and so did the soreness. This was everything I did not believe in, so January 1st I jumped head first back into a clean lifestyle and I’ll never look back. Today I am right around 200lbs and keeping it off. I am really excited to see 2010 and my new found interest of eating well, living primal and enjoying a more active life; especially being a father for the first time at the ripe old age of 38 years. Thanks for reading!

Mark:
Great blog! My wife and I embarked upon P90x 60 days ago and I am loving it. We are a low carb lifestyle team and pretty much follow a Paleo plan now- real big fans of Mark and Primal Blueprint. I will follow you here and also send you the link to my new blog- which is almost ready. It will detail our transition not only in our fitness and nutrition lifestyle- but also our checking out of mainstream America and developing our 117 acre mountain property into an organic homestead for a modern hunter gatherer that Grok would be proud of! We are in the process of making the move now. Keep up the great work! Chuck
Chuck,
That is awesome! How the heck are you able to dial in property like that?! Please share! I would love to hunt and gather for a living! GROK ON bro!
Well we saved, scrimped, invested in some smaller rural land parcels starting 17 years ago and kept fixing those places up and flipping them and rolling the money into bigger, better places in our favorite mountain county. We hate the stock market now and think good rural land is probably the wisest investment out there today. When some guy on wall Street or some debtor nation like Greece or (us) takes a fearful crap- my land, timber, wildlife and streams don’t miss a beat or vaporize….I like getting real primal there :>) heres a post about my hunting from awhile back on MarksDailyApple. If you ever want to learn to shoot a bow and chase wild things- I can help you guys. My blog should be up next week. Keep rockin!!
